AUTHOR STATEMENT

What kind of author am I? The answer is never simple, but I’ll do my best to explain.

I’ve used the image of Willy Wonka for a reason. Although I am neither a pimp, nor a purveyor of fine chocolate - I am a man of words, which produce images and feelings in the human body, and in some senses, I see myself in a similar way: a craftsman, an artist, and a businessman. I aim to create and deliver books that are as refined, imaginative, and enjoyable as possible. I rely on my own ideas, methods, and techniques—some unorthodox—to produce the best fiction I can through a deep commitment to storytelling.

I don’t consider myself a great literary master or an academic with an elite background. In many ways, I see myself as an average writer compared to the greats throughout history. However, as an author, I have worked to master some of the most difficult elements of the craft—dialogue, metaphor, character, and concept—and I hold my work to the highest standards in today’s market. My strength lies in originality, efficiency, and my own ability to create work that is both thoughtful and highly readable, able to be appreciated by fans of literary technique and those who enjoy commercial fiction – a perfect balance.

Each book, to me, is like a living organism. My goal is to find the precise balance it needs to become a complete work of art—from the title to the bar code on the rear cover.

Like all authors, I bring my own voice, but with most of my projects, I often try to remove as much of myself as possible from the work and write through my characters. I aim to create stories that feel real, meaningful, and are worth the reader’s time. There is a sort of magic in it, a formula, and methods of changing the lives of readers that can only be conveyed through the story itself. Many of the things I write about are woven in magical realism, satire and encompass other genres, but adhere to these eternal truths, as I capture the human condition, particularly that of death, love, desire, failure, grief and suffering, while touching on timely political and cultural topics. Writing is, in a sense, a kind of exchange—I give you my thoughts, and in return, you give your time and attention. And my thoughts will lead you to new places, helping you lead yourself along on your own journey, to your own realizations about this experience we call life. That exchange matters to me, and it matters to me that, whether or not you enjoy and relate with my work, you recognize the quality in it. I refuse to lower the quality of my work, and I only work harder to write better quality books, faster, to put more high-quality books on shelves. That is my goal as an author. More, quality.

I write to explore ideas, perspectives, and experiences that feel honest, rare, and are often missing from modern fiction. I don’t know if I chose writing, or if it chose me, but I know I do it because I have to. And I intend to be the best I can be, and to raise the standard of what fiction can offer.

Early on in my journey as an author, I found myself asking: why does so much modern fiction feel lacking in imagination, style, and power? I’ve spent years working toward my own answer to that question—not only by writing, but by understanding people. To make my characters real, I’ve led myself into unfamiliar spaces, meeting all kinds of individuals across different walks of life, pushing social, class and even ethical, moral and legal barriers to do so.

This process can be demanding, even dangerous. It requires absorbing perspectives, emotions, and behaviors of people, and the consequences of their choices, people that often feel and work differently than I do, and then separating them from my own. I’m not a perfect person, and like Willy Wonka, perhaps I’m a bit unconventional and withdrawn. That’s part of the cost of the work.

Books have power. My work is meant to move you—to challenge your thinking, shift your perspective, and take you somewhere new. What you take from it is ultimately your own. I make no guarantees what that might be, and I only caution you to think before, and after you read.

My work is not yet available on the public market, but I am working to change that. My goal is simple: to deliver the highest-quality experience I can.

Stay tuned. â€‹— Dylan Christopher, March 2026
